PRODUCT DEVELOPER II

Position Summary


BLUE ICE is looking for an energetic and experienced Product Developer II for softgoods, to join our product team based in Chamonix.

We are seeking a candidate who is both creatively and technically minded, who enjoys the processes of developing products, solving problems related to construction, process management, and sourcing, and ensuring products are developed according to the design intent and to Blue Ice expectations. This position is for an experienced professional in technical sewn products and will work under the Soft Goods Director and the Senior Product Developer. The responsibility starts at the brief approval and increases throughout the design process, after most design is finished this position is responsible for managing (and sometimes creating) the tech packs, managing color development and color specs, materials, technical problems, material testing, BOM’s and other development issues. The Product Developer II’s goal is to translate the design into a manufacturable technical packet for production, and also into quality control documents.

Job Functions

-Tech-packet management, updating, creation
-Materials development, testing management
-Color/Lab Dip management, color spec creation and management
-Sample review, measurement, updating, and comment communication
-BOM analysis and negotiation
-Development timeline management
-Travel to visit manufacturing partners in Europe, Asia and worldwide 3-6 times per year 7-14 days per trip
-Ensures all products developed to norms and certifications required
-Actively involved in ongoing research on new materials and manufacturing techniques
-Responsible for the development of new products (from 1st prototype, various samples to the validation of final sales samples)
-Provides all technical documentations required to ensure smooth production process
-Travels to trade shows to keep updated with the industry trends and future technologies
-Collaborates with products, marketing and sales teams
-Interacts with colleagues, partners, suppliers, contractors
-BLUE ICE is a young brand and this role may have other responsibilities not listed
-Bridges the gap between product development and quality assurance teams

Required Skills

Excellent English language proficiency
High-level professional ability in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel
Master knowledge of softgoods production techniques
Basic understanding of softgoods construction and pattern-making
Basic ability to sew
Hands-on problem solving skills

Profile

Specific experience working on technical sewn products--backpack products is a key advantage
Technically-minded, problem solver with at least 5-year proven experience developing technical soft good products is required.
Takes initiative, self-driven
3D software: Autocad, Solidworks, Rhino, or other 3D program would be helpful
Deadline-driven and works well under pressure, proven ability to establish and maintain schedules
Provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility
Comfortable with an international teamwork structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job
Strong communication and networking skills
Familiarity using Microsoft environment (Office, Teams, Skype, Sharepoint...)
Climbers, skiers, alpinists are more than welcome, at least strong interest for these mountain activities
