Jef's five climbing spots in Austria

Jef Verstraeten is a young and talented austrian mountain lover. He is every day outside, he gives you his five best climbing spots around his home.

1. Zillertal Valley

It's a true Mecca for climbing: from Sport climbing over bouldering to Alpine, it has everything.

2. Martinswand

Another allrounder. Only 10 minutes away from Innsbruck, it offers some of the world’s best sport climbing in the renowned “Dschunglbuch”sector and it's a hot-spot for year-round multipitch climbing.

3. Dachstein

The South face offers some awesome alpine climbing with some routes heights exceeding 800m. And, with the presence of a cable car, the descent is a breeze.

4. Schüsselkar/Wetterstein

With a minimum of 2.5 hours of approach hiking to the base of the routes, it is a bit more alpine. The hike pays off though, the south facing walls make a great spot for alpine and multi-pitch climbing.

5. Chinesische Mauer

Close to Schüsselkar but with a much faster approach walk and the same kind of rock quality. Sport climbing at its best, on the face that is named after the great wall of China. Probably because of the sheer amount of routes that this long wall offers.

BONUS:  A secret tip: Innsbrucker Wohnzimmer on the Mutterer alm

This relatively new area is with its 22 routes is quite small, but it's a great place to visit on a hot summers day. At an altitude of approximately 2,000m, temperatures are soothing even on the hottest days of the year. Topo
