fred mathieu
| mountain guide & j'adore-les-big-wallbasecamp: chamonix
Fred is definitely one of our strongest climbers. He is also an excellent guide, Chamonix local and traveler. He started climbing at the age of seventeen. Up until then he spent most of his time winning cross-country ski races in the winter and biking competitions in the summer.
When Fred was finally introduced to climbing, he abandoned the ski wax and the bike tires for crags and big walls. He was gifted for the sport and showed both talent and technique. Thanks to rapid progress he joined the French national team of young alpinists (ENJA) two years later. From there, moving to Chamonix and starting the training to become a guide, was a logical step.
Since 1999 Fred has been guiding professionally, and when he is not climbing, skiing or basejumping, in the Mont Blanc range he is off somewhere adding new routes to his already impressive list of climbs on el Capitán, the Nose, Salathé, the Shield, Mescalito, New Dawn…
At this very moment Fred is planning a trip to go back to Patagonia, we will check in on him regularly and show you all what and where he is doing. .
