MANUFACTURING PROCESS & RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE MAKER’S? (besides getting our equipment done)In the same way that we pick our raw material carefully, we select our suppliers with strict criteria. Competence in the making process is one thing; however we also like to see that our demands are met when it comes to working environment, compensation, health, safety, and respect the labor laws and environment regulations.
Why, you ask? It’s simple: we, at Blue Ice, have the privilege of living and working in a part of the world where high standards, fair labor conditions and possibilities to enjoy and develop ourselves at work, and after, are taken for granted. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, this is not the case. We choose to work only with those who make an effort to raise the comfort and safety of their workers and respect better environmental standards. In doing so, we hope to contribute to the improvement of working conditions of our global suppliers.
WRAP - WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBLE APPAREL PRODUCTION
A great tool we use to select our suppliers is the organization WRAP (http://www.wrapcompliance.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the standards of working conditions in developing countries. As well as trusting the work and certification of WRAP, we regularly travel to our makers to meet in person the people who work there and see with our own eyes what a day of work for Blue Ice means in a different part of the world.
ENVIRONMENTAL CHOICES
We are probably the first generation to witness the global environmental crisis and its effects on our own lives. For this reason we try to make choices that minimize the impact of our products and our work on the environment. To guide our decisions, we use the principle that the only nonpolluting products are the ones that are never made. Therefore we strive to build things once and keep them forever (or at least as long as we can) and we backup our promises with a lifetime warranty.
Because we also recognize that resources are limited, whenever a valid alternative exists, we use recycled or recyclable materials to manufacture our products. This alone does not protect us from introducing toxic substance in the environment and that is why we do check where our materials come from and we prefer those with the most strict production standards.
